Teens learn to detect and react to the dangers of the net
The Internet has brought us many advantages and has become an indispensable tool, but it must be used wisely. The installing of dangerous applications, the lack of privacy that we exhibit on social networks which can be used against us, and cyber bullying are the main dangers that we face there. Young people, habitual web users, often know how to detect the dangers, but always how to react. Preventing risks and responding to problems are the objectives of the workshops held as part of Conand, the 2nd International Cybersecurity Conference of Andorra, sponsored by Andorra Telecom and other partners.
The workshops are aimed at young people between 11 and 16 years old. Members of the organization X1RedMasSegura explain how to try to maintain one's privacy and ensure a safer connection. One of the experts, Josep Albors, said that he explains "the risks they can unwittingly come across due to sharing more data than they should, how to deal with it, whom to trust and to recognize and avoid traps, since it is sometimes more difficult to react if you are very young".
However, the web specialist warns that the problem is not whether to let young people use a mobile phone or tablet, but rather that the parents are able to explain how to use them properly. With this goal in mind, this Tuesday afternoon there will be a workshop specially intended for parents.
In fact, adults too display risky behaviour on the net and expose their privacy, as one of the organizers of the Conand, Andorra Telecom risk engineer, David Julián points out. The conference, which will last until Thursday, is structured in three blocks: workshops for teens; awareness for parents; and finally, technology talks on topics including cybersecurity, cryptocurrency laundering and incident management.
Julián remarked that Conand "aspires to be more than just a four-day conference with activities and technology talks; we aim to be an ongoing project that promotes the awareness of cybersecurity issues throughout the year".
