The Nottingham Prisas team did outstandingly well at the WRO Andorra Telecom

They took part in the competition held at Professional Training Centres in Andorra, the Seu d'Urgell, Olot and Barcelona
The final of the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) 2019 was held on Thursday at the chosen venue, the Professional Training Center in Aixovall. Around a hundred children in teams from Andorra, the Seu d'Urgell, Olot and Barcelona participated in the Andorran leg of an international competition that promotes both technological knowledge and a passion for innovation in children.

The Director General of Andorra Telecom, Jordi Nadal, explained that this project is fully consolidated and is now in its fifth year. Nadal stated that ‘we will continue to support this event’, and has emphasised the desire to continue to promote this type of initiative among children and young people so that they can get to know the world of engineering from an early age.

In the junior category (13 to 15 year olds), the Nottingham Prisas team, made up of Pablo Barlerin, Carles Barberá and Raúl Moreno took first place, thereby winning the chance to compete at the Spanish Championship due to take place in Girona.

With regard to the Rookie category (also for 13 to 15 year olds) the IronBots team came first, so they too will also have a place in the Spanish Championship, together with the other top teams.

In the Elementary category, aimed at children between 7 and 12, first place on the podium went to 4am, and in the Star category (also for children between 7 and 12 years of age) the winner was Av Jip.

In the WeDo category, for the youngest children, the winners were Loopa team. The winners of the Spanish Championship will also have a place reserved for them in the World Championship, where Andorra was also represented a few years back.

This year, the theme of the WRO was ‘smart cities’ and the children’s teams had to programme an autonomous robot to complete a circuit devised by the world organisation. Despite the participants’ competitive spirit, Nadal stressed that ‘the most important thing is participation and not results’, so having a hundred children taking part is a success”.
