An incident reduces mobile coverage in the centre of Andorra la Vella and Escaldes
An incidenct in the telecommunications network affected mobile phone coverage during the morning in the city centre. In particular, several stations located throughout Andorra la Vella and Escaldes-Engordany were rendered inactive.
Mobile phone communications were generally maintained by other stations, particularly those at la Comella and Carroi Peak, which have greater capacity and scope, but coverage was lost inside buildings. Likewise, there was saturation when other stations had to take on excessive traffic.
The difficulty in establishing communication did not result in a reduction in the number of phone calls in the area. The total volume of inbound or outbound connections to or from terminals located in the city centre remained at the same level as usual, although at moments of saturation, due to excess traffic, users had to dial more than once.
The incidenct occurred at 10:45 in the morning. Andorra Telecom's technical services, backed up by the equipment manufacturer, worked to restore services until the incidenct was solved at 1pm, when the faulty element was completely isolated. The activation of redundant systems resulted in only a slight malfunction in Internet services with limited effect.
Other effects caused by the incidence were deterioration of services to some companies with specific professional requirements and a break in the transmissions of ATV and RNA. Andorra Telecom wish to offer our sincere apologies to all customers who were affected by this malfunction.
