Eight teams will play in the Andorran Lego League final, despite the pandemic
The seventh edition of the Micro First Lego League Andorra Telecom will be held in a mixed format – on-site and online – to ensure health safety.
Eight teams will take part in the final of the robot game that will be held this Wednesday afternoon in the Sala del Prat del Roure, with safety and hygiene measures imposed by the Ministry of Health. While the presentations will be carried out before a jury that will test the scientific project and values, they will be developed online.
The participants in the local final of this seventh edition are 4th grade, secondary education (ESO) students of the Escola Andorrana d’Ordino (Andorran School of Ordino), Santa Coloma and Encamp, which present two teams each, and Sant Ermengol school, also represented by two teams.
The challenge proposed by the organisation is how to help the community stay healthy by playing. Teams will have to design an obstacle course where people are encouraged to do sport and play. Teams will be challenged to provide innovative solutions with today’s tools and technology. Proposals must include First Lego League values such as discovery, innovation, impact, inclusion, collaboration, and fun.
The test of the robot game of this championship will be held in the Sala del Prat del Roure in the Congress Centre. The teams will prepare a video presentation for the exhibition of scientific and values projects and the judges will be able to ask questions and supplement the information to assess the projects through an online meeting.
The robots of the eight teams participating in the championship will have to complete missions related to the performance of sport and leisure activities based on health, innovation and fun.
The Head of Events and CSR at Andorra Telecom, Inés Martí, pointed out that “the effort of the schools and colleges and teams to carry out this year’s edition despite the pandemic confirms the consolidation of the programming and robotics training – as is the Micro First Lego League itself – in schools in our country”.
Martí also highlighted the values conveyed by this international competition, promoted by the Scentia Foundation, because “not only does it promote interest in science subjects and teamwork among children and young people, but it also raises awareness of the great challenges of the world, such as being healthy through physical activity and playing”.
The students' scientific projects will be assessed by the engineer David Astrié and Francesc Poujerniscle, two professionals with a recognised track record and sporting experience. As for the values projects, they will be judged by the Head of CSR and events at Andorra Telecom, Inés Martí.
Andorra Telecom supports the promotion of robotics and innovation among children and teenagers in the country through the Micro First Lego League competitions, which bring together teams from different schools, and also through the competitions promoted by the WRO, which bring together robotics clubs.
