Sant Ermengol wins in two of the three categories at the Micro First Lego League Andorra Telecom

The jury of the robotics competition awarded the prize to the Sant Ermengol school's science project, which also won the robot game, while the Encamp Andorran School was the winner in the values project category.

This afternoon, the Micro First Lego League Andorra Telecom robotics competition presented trophies to all the participants in the seventh edition of a competition that had to be held in blended form this year due to the pandemic.

The winning team in the robotics category was BMO Creators, from Sant Ermengol school, which scored a total of 325 points in one of the rounds of the robot game competition, achieving the best score among the eight participating teams.

The Movers team, also from Sant Ermengol, was the winner of the science project category, with an entry that not only combined creativity and originality, but also stressed the project's viability. It is worth remembering this edition's theme, which centred on coming up with imaginative initiatives to transform public spaces and encourage people to do sport and keep healthy and active. In this year's edition, the science and values projects were evaluated together.

In the end, it was the Opportunity & Company team from the Encamp Andorran School that won the values category, in which the judges highlighted the value inherent in the structure of the entry, that of discovery, as well as excellent teamwork of all its members.

The Minister of Education and Higher Learning, Ester Vilarrubla, together with the director of Andorra Telecom, Jordi Nadal, presented trophies to the members of the winning school teams.

Vilarrubla stressed how much this year's challenge tied into the real situation that the pandemic has produced, "and how important it was for everyone to keep physically active during the months of confinement". The minister also emphasised that this year "the value of technology has become patently clear, as not only has it allowed us to study and communicate, it also lets us do sports as a family and do various activities together"

The minister congratulated the organisers, students, teachers and parents for making possible a competition that "lets us work on cross-curricular projects that prepare us for the world, in a particularly difficult year."

The general manager of Andorra Telecom, Jordi Nadal, stressed the virtues of this international competition, which not only stimulate children's interest in science subjects and robotics in particular, given that "the values aspect has a fundamental importance in how the competition is designed. Starting with the same challenges proposed, this year focused on community health, encouraging teamwork and respect"

David Astrié, Putxi Poujarniscle and Inés Martí were the judges for the science and values projects. Jordi Fernàndez and Joan Rovira, from the Loopa classroom, were the judges of the robot game.

Andorra Telecom supports the promotion of robotics and innovation among the country's children and teenagers through the Micro First Lego League competitions, which bring together teams from different schools, and also through the competitions promoted by the WRO, which represents robotics clubs.
